They are the first California High School team to win the National Championship!  Very exciting to us hockey fans/players, but...

Team Captain Branden Vara was my neighbors' kid when I lived in Foothill Ranch.  His folks let him come to a bunch of my games when he was a little kid, and it motivated him to start playing!

He's looking at continuing his career at USC, San Diego, or Long Beach State.

This is exciting, but it is somewhat tainted by the allegations of illegal player transfers from one school/district to another. High school hockey is a dirty institution.

It's a private school. There isn't illegal transfers from one school/district to another. There are some eligibility requirements for competition but it isn't illegal to transfer for any reason.

A transfer has to sit out of a month of league competition in the transfer year but that's pretty much it.

They are being honored by the Ducks today during the first period.  They are part of the Ducks HS hockey network.

Yep... I'm not gonna make the game, but hope to get on the ice with them soon.  I'll be watching; hopefully they'll get some screen-time away from the huge "Homer" Hayzee...
