Rule 8.02:

- The pitcher shall not have expectorate on the ball, either hand or his glove.

- PENALTY:

(a) The pitcher shall be ejected immediately from the game and shall be suspended automatically for 10 games.

Expectorate is spit.

According to one of the pundits on twitter the automatic suspension is only for the minor leagues.

Dude is just being disrespectful to the game now... that's crazy. I understand the use of pinetar, but to have it that blatant after you've already got caught... that's embarrassing. I don't know about a suspension, but he needs to be fined for sure. I also don't understand how, as a manager, you let him go out there like that. Embarrassing all the way around.

i just don't get how all these pine tar incidents aren't bigger stories.

Because it's common for pitchers to use substances to help with control. Even Napoli came out today and confirmed that most pitchers do it. What Pineda did was draw attention to it. Last time, the Red Sox ignored it and people criticized Farrell for not going to the umps. So when Pineda did it again with the tar visibly on his neck, Farrell had to complain. If Michael concealed it, the Red Sox probably wouldn't have made a big deal about it.

Anyone here the call of this by John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman?  You can tell they are on the Yankees payroll...

Glad you pointed this out Chimi, this specific commentary really explains a lot about the attitudes and mentalities of Stankee fans that we all notice and have to deal with...

"Don't worry about it (Yankee fans), the Yankees will do this with Boston pitchers (from now on)..."

This almost disgusted me to hear from a baseball commentator.

"Two of their (Red Sox) pitchers are known to use stuff. And this is gonna start something that maybe John Ferrel isn't going to wanna start by the end of the year"

LOL Are those threats by commentators to validate their player breaking the rules? How about a little bit of humility for craps sake. What is wrong with these people?
