Teens spending all their money on Starbucks

Recommended Posts

It's crazy how much coffee kids drink and how young they start. I teach an acting class for 7-8 graders on Saturday mornings and, at least thre or four of them show up with some sort of coffee drink. They are 13 years old and drink several cups a day.

I think it starts with the parents treating their kids so much older than what they are. So 7th grade kids act like they are a bunch of 21 year olds drinking Starbucks. It's like a damn near status symbol.

my 14 yr old thinks starbucks is something she should be able to get for breakfast all the time. my wife takes her maybe once a month, at most, and she gets some chocolate drink without coffee.

discovered a couple of our 8th graders here bring starbucks with them most every morning and keep it in their locker during the day, then drink it between class periods.

heard many years ago that there were studies showing drinking lots of caffeine at a young age affects your growth. gonna go look and see if i can find any articles about it.

Where are these kids getting all this money?

Are they working for their money or is it just getting handed to them?

When I was young I got an allowance, and that was it. Want a cell phone? Better get a job. Want a set of headphones? Better earn it by painting the house.

I don't understand this mentality of parents anymore, they're just ****ing up their kids by giving them everything and letting them do whatever they want.

It's absurd.

The worst examples I've seen are parents who give their children copies of their own credit cards.  The kids never see the statements, never reimburse their parents, and frankly don't care how much anything costs.

My cousin's daughter is studying abroad in England right now.  The semester ended so she and several others are traveling all over Europe right now.  Last I heard the whole experience had cost my cousin and her husband $10K not including a surprise $700 credit card charge for a rail pass.  Their girls are spoiled brats.
