Angels claim Michael Brady off waivers from Marlins

I like it.  He's from Orange County....

actually, I don't care if he is from Jupiter.  His minor league numbers are excellent.

He actually is from Jupiter.  The Marlins minor league team plays in Jupiter, Florida.

According to an article on Baseball America (from last year), apparently this guy has a problem throwing too many strikes.  I laughed when I read that.  I guess they had to teach him to throw the ball out of the zone every now and then.

Butchy should love him then.

What I don't get is why they added him to the 40 man over someone like Jerry Berg.

Then they would have to expose him to waivers as well, right, if he is not placed on the 40-man? Whereas Berg has options to be moved up and down.

On a slightly different note I like the move, he is a righty-specialist who also does decently against LHH. Waiver claims, Rule V Drafts, etc. are solid ways to acquire solid relievers (Moran and now Brady).

Anything > Kevin Jepsen.

Brady falls into the category of anything.  At this point, I don't care if the Angels let Jepsen go and Tampa Bay picks him up and turns him into an elite closer.  Just get that guy off our roster.  At this point he's no different than any minor leaguer that throws 95 with a good offspeed pitch but no idea where it's going.

I'd put Morin, Alvarez and Bedrosian in before I'd trust Jepsen with a lead, and not one of those guys is above AA.  I trust Jepsen with a lead as much as I trust any random AA or Cal League reliever.
