Massacre at Chinese train station

Recommended Posts

47 dead and 131 injured by a group of ten assailants. I imagine justice will be carried out swifter there than here.

A few years ago a maniac killed a lot of schoolchildren in some little town in China.

He was arrested, tried, convicted, appeals heard, and executed within the next 28 days.

Here, he would have sat in a cell in San Quentin for 35 years before getting the needle.

The Chinese are on the ball in all respects when it comes to justice. You've chosen a good thread in which to complain about how things work in the US.

Most things work better in the U.S. Actually, the vast majority of things.

The death penalty is not one of them. There's no reason that men should be sitting on Death Row in California for over thirty years, and still not be any closer to an execution date then when they arrived there.

I did not imply or infer that "the Chinese are on the ball in all respects when it comes to justice." Not even close. I do not have a problem, though, with the quick execution of a maniac who murders 20 schoolchildren.

China has the highest population of any country and one of the lowest murder rates of any country. It could be culturally murder is not a casual act as it is in some countries or it could be attributed to the swift and severe punishment as a deterrent.

Conversely the have the highest suicide rate in the world. In 2011 over 287,000 Chinese committed suicide while close to 2 million attempted to. Their country is in social upheaval over the reformation and industrialization as China pushes towards economic goals. The murder rate may very well rise as people lash out instead of opting to just kill themselves.

Nature finds a way.
