So, apparently Jered Weaver is a just a little more of a progressive thinker than Torii Hunter and Chris Culliver:

Doesn't sound like he would be very receptive to a light hitting gay. No wonder he preferred Mathis over Napoli.

it's news because it still matters. when it doesn't matter anymore, then it won't be news.

it's unfortunate that there are so many people that think if a dude is gay, then he MUST want to @#&^ me. as if all gay men are controlling their rape tendencies. admittedly, that would make for one hell of a baseball movie.

exactly. just waiting for the day when it's not an issue that anybody feels a need to announce they're "for" or "against". long way to go, but already a lot more hopeful than it was even 20 years ago.

Since baseball has been around for nearly 150 years, I am sure there has been a gay player on a team but there would be no way that they would ever admit it.

i'm not gonna get in a social issue war on a baseball forum. particularly because i feel it's been covered recently in the torii hunter thread, which i took part in, but i think this should be pointed out.

pro·gres·sive
/pr?'gresiv/
Adjective
Happening or developing gradually or in stages; proceeding step by step.
Noun
A person advocating or implementing social reform or new, liberal ideas.

kinda sounds like those advocating for change and inclusion of civil liberties for everyone have cornered the market on the word progressive, but there are plenty of other words for everyone. i can think of many.
