| social changes aren't easy in any culture. research the number of slow, painful social changes our nation has gone through over the last 250 years...changes that were once considered "progressive" and are now considered normative.

Why not? Don't ask don't tell is recently history, gay people were addressed for the first time in the prez's inauguration speech a week ago, cali still hasn't legalized gay marriage when iowa has, etc.
