Hall of Fame Posts: 10189 | http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/12/hideki-matsui-to-retire.html Good luck to him in whatever is ahead for him. He always seemed like a really good guy, and he had a nice major league career. Edited by jshep 2012-12-27 1:08 PM

Hall of Fame Posts: 5188 | We didn't get the best of him here as an Angel, but if our team was a little better that year, I think he would have had some big hits for us. He didn't get fooled often, but when he did, wow he looked bad. He would have that Juan Rivera ass out of the batters box look to him as he was flailing. Overall he was a great ball player. My best memory of him wasn't even him playing in a game. I went to NY for the first time a few years back. It was the year that both the Yankees and the Mets were going to the playoffs (2005?). We planned our trip during the World Series with hopes of catching a game at either Yankee or Shea stadium. Neither team made it to the World Series, which sucked, but it also allowed us to take a tour of Yankee Stadium, something we wouldn't have been able to do if they were in the Series. They were eliminated on the Friday or Saturday of the previous week, and our tour was set up just a few days later on a Tuesday. As we are taking the tour we look our in right field, and there was Matsui working out with a trainer. That is called dedication, and kind of shows you the commitment he had for his craft.

Hall of Fame Posts: 5456 Location: Las Vegas, NV | We didn't get Matsui at the peak of his career. Even so, there was a stretch when he was about the only hitter producing. He was a class act who just went about his job. You never heard him complain about at-bats, playing time or teammates.
