The Cardinals have also been linked to Burnett, and reports have indicated that several other teams could be involved. The 30-year-old posted a 2.38 ERA in 56 2/3 innings this past summer for the Nationals while holding left-handed batters to a .211/.245/.289 batting line.

I really like what Dipoto is doing.
Instead of having a guy like Walden which is extremely unreliable, even though he can be lights out at certain moments
He's going for veteran steady relievers
I'd want Adam and Burnett personally
You can have Adams, Burnett, Madson, Fieri, Downs and Jepsen
and now THAT is a bullpen compared to the crap we had last year
the SP may still be an issue with only Hanson, Wilson and Weaver as locks
You like need a #2
I would also rather take a chance on a #5 via FA, then have richards.
I'd rather have richards as the first guy to call up if someone goes on the DL |

His BB rate fluctuates, too, though the overall trend is down since 2009. |

| 2011 he had a blip that took his WHIP to 1.32 and an ERA of 3.81. But 3 of the last 4 years, WHIP of 1.11-1.24 and ERA of 2.14-3.12. Plus he's a lefty, so that's a plus for our pen.
Seems like a good economical pickup. He might be had for $3 million, maybe $4. Plus he's a setup reliever. (and not a closer that loses focus in a setup situation, see Krod among others) |
