this is kind of how im seeing it.

Not thrilled to lose walden. He's still young with upside, regardlesa of his struggles. That said, madson replaces him. Now hansen replaces ervin.

So effectively its madson and hansen vs santana and walden, and we managed to save a few bucks doing that.

Nice move by dipoto.

All the people pointing to Walden being an All-Star are forgetting how undeserving he was that year.

He was very deserving...for half of a year!

He blew like 6 saves before the ASB that year.

Blarg - 2012-11-30 6:23 PM And the first game he leaves in the 5th inning you will call him a gutless waste of money.

Blarg, what gives you that idea?     Actually, I truly think he is a good acquisition. He is not that expensive, and he certainly has a better track record than the kid he is replacing. He is projected to be no more than a 4th or 5th starter, so my expectations are not super high with him, but he is a competent and smart pitcher with some good stuff.

I respect your baseball mind, so I am asking in all seriousness, what do you think of this move?

Tyler - 2012-11-30 6:48 PM Luckily for him, Atlanta has a great coaching staff.

They do? The Braves choked in 2011, and with 94 wins in 2012 they didn't do squat in their one game playoff. They have had some very talented kids come out of their farm system, but have failed to really generate anything of substance in the last several seasons.

One thing he will benefit is from not having to bat much in the AL. He's one of the worst hitters I've ever seen. .059 BA in 225 PA with ZERO extra base hits, not even a lucky swing bloop double down the line.

So All Three have potential to be All Stars. Walden has great potential so does Trumbo. Wilson has proven to be a great player.

bloodbrother - 2012-11-30 6:28 PM Hopefully this deal works out as well as the last trade between the Halos/Braves

...Teixeira?

I see one of two scenarios here.

1.) I'm missing the sarcasm in this post.

2.) Serious post, in which case I would see that as kind of disappointing.

I'm going with #1.

Dude.

Kotchman and Marek for Tex, Trout and Skaggs?

Wonderful trade.

Well, you could say it was really Grichuk instead of Trout. I don't think the Angels seriously thought Grichuk was a better pick there than Trout.

But ya, still worked out really well.

It's okay to sell low when you are also buying low.

Good deal and fair value for both teams.

I liked Walden. Once he finds confidence in himself he will do very well. MS handling of the pen could make an all star question himself.

Well, Trout was from the K-rod signing really. Not sure how Skaggs got thrown in there.

Kotchman and Marek for Tex was an OK swap but it turned out to be just a rental. So it didn't exactly go as planned, but still worked itself out in the end with Morales.

Has Hanson spoke on playing for the Angels yet?

http://www.ocregister.com/sports/angels-379241-hanson-braves.html

He added that he is “super excited” to play for the Angels, whom he rooted for when he was growing up in Redlands. He pitched at Redlands East Valley High and Riverside Community College. The Angels have now picked up two Southern California natives in a week, including free agent reliever Ryan Madson.

Hanson, a Scott Boras client, moved from Tulsa, Okla., to Southern California when he was 2, attending Redlands East Valley High School and Riverside Community College. Yes, like Madson, he rooted for the Angels.

"Where I grew up, there's a ton of Angels fans," said Hanson, who was in Alabama to attend the wedding of Braves closer Craig Kimbrel when he heard the news. "I grew up going to Angels games, and I pitched there in 2011, and I was very excited to pitch there after going to so many games growing up. Immediately, I was shocked, and now I'm just very excited. And I wish Spring Training was tomorrow."

Looks like they've got the bare minimum required for a rotation now. That's a start. If Hanson and Wilson don't suck it's a pretty good start.

So I guess by the posts that a lot of you actually think Butcher can fix someone...you are giving him a lot of credibility that I am not sure he has earned. Similar to Hatcher, Butcher is friends with Scioscia which has kept him employed!

I like this deal on the surface but I'm a little concerned because Hanson screams damaged goods. That the Braves would trade him away for a reliever is very telling as to what they think of him.

Wells sat the last half of the season even with Trumbo struggling. He will be a 4th outfielder unless his Spring Training shows he can play at a different level than the last two years.

Tommy Hanson in 2012.
The Good:
13-0 when the Braves scored 3 or more runs!!!
The Bad:
Opponents OPS in the 6th inning was 1.157.
The Ugly:
Opponents OPS 3rd time seeing Hanson in a start was 1.049

Get this guy a few runs early, and don't keep him in too long and he should be a very good number 4 starter.
