Hall of Fame Posts: 5418 | He did awesome in Chicago in 2012. And he had a stretch of starts with Texas where he was pretty good, too. His last start against the A's was pretty unclutch though. No interest from me, though. I just don't think it's fair to simply say he blew.

All-Star Posts: 3435 | I think he is much better than you guys are giving him credit for. It is true that he had a down year in 2011 and wasn't very good for Texas, but over the last five years he has, generally speaking, been very good, durable, and consistent. Pitching in a pitcher's park like Anaheim, with a good defense behind him, could make him an excellent #4 starter. I wouldn't go three years on him, but I would absolutely give him something along the lines of 2/18 with the potential to earn another 6 mil or so based on games started. Of course, maybe some team will give him 3/42.

For 2 years, maybe. 3? No thanks. He's gonna be 36 years old next May Floplag - 2012-11-29 9:09 AM WTF for? he blew in Chi, he blew worse in Tex.. we want this why? hes got to be about 8 or 9 on the SP depth chart.. are we desperate already? Blew in Chicago? Once they put him back in the rotation, he gave them ERA's under 4(twice under 3) for 4 of the last 5 years while racking up a good amount of K's Edited by bloodbrother 2012-11-29 9:39 AM

| He flamed out in the 2nd half last season either due to age or pitching in the AL. Opponents had an .851 OPS off him in Arlington, so imagine him pitching there as the opposing pitcher. It could be as bad as Santana. I wouldn't go anywhere near this guy. Quit dumpster diving, JP. | |||

San Bernadino 66'ers Posts: 459 | Why would we want this guy? What a waste of money. He's had a couple of good seasons for the Cubs and they gave him a huge contract, but he's decent at best. We'll be lucky if he turns in a sub 4.00 ERA next year. I'm guessing a whip somewhere in the 1.4's. I love pitchers who can't throw strikes. I think we should re-sign K-Rod while we're at it! I really hope we're not this foolish.

Agreed. I'd take Saunders over Dempster as well.

Dempster isn't terrible, but he's not my first choice, and especially not for the type of contract he's looking for. And Joe Saunders should be somewhere around Plan E or F as well. Hall of Fame Posts: 19315 | Dempster would be an awesome number 4, and a solid number 3. Certainly not my top choice, or even 2nd choice, but if he can be had for a decent figure, he wouldn't be a terrible option.

Hall of Fame Posts: 9232 | It looks like Dempster is going to get at least three years. I hope he doesn't get 3+ years from the Angels! The Royals offered Ryan Dempster a two-year, $26MM contract but are no longer bidding on the Canadian right-hander now that his price tag has risen, reports Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star. At least six teams besides Kansas City have been connected to Dempster this offseason. Read more at http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/#pWrgGIOT4HgI1sfc.99

Hall of Fame Posts: 5831 Location: Redondo Beach, Calif. | Don't get the Dempster hate. His numbers in 2011 were due in large part to being distracted by a life-threatening illness his young daughter had. I would be fine with a 3 year deal for him.

Hall of Fame Posts: 7014 Location: Land O'Lakes | If Greinke isn't going to happen, I would be fine with Dempster at an average annual salary of $10M over 3 years. Still cheaper than Haren or Santana, and still allows you to get the #3/#4 starter that will still be needed.
