I'm sticking with my offseason plan of:
1. Trade for Headley. Make Callaspo the utility man.
2. Sign Oriental reliever.
3. Sign 3 second-tier starters, preferably Baker, Marcum, McCarthy, Braden or Saunders OR sign 2 from that group figuring Williams will compete for #5.
4. Sign another reliever returning from injury (Madson, Soria) or someone like Sean Burnett.
Headley will most certainly cost us Kaleb Cowart, so is it worth it?
They got Alonso, Grandal, and Vasquez for Mat Latos. Two prospects and a replacement starter.
You'd have to think they'd want a replacement bat, and two high caliber prospects for Headley. Cowart, Girchuck, Trumbo, Callaspo? Is it worth that?
They have a replacement at AAA Jedd Gyorko if they did trade Headley. They seem pretty happy with Maybin in center, and have Alonso and Grandal (even with the suspension) at 1st and Catcher. Still...
They need a second baseman, but Taylor Lindsey is too far away for them to covet, at least for next year anwyay, and Amarista did okay after an initial slow start. Of course they can just move Gyorko here if they keep Headley.
I think the cost is simply too great, but I've always been a fan of Headley. He'd do even better in Angels Stadium than he does in Petco. Still he did strikeout 150 times, meaning that if they did acquire him and also kept Trumbo, you can't put those two guys back to back.
So would it be Trout, Headley, Pujols, Morales, Trumbo or would it be Trout, #2 spot, Pujols, Headley, Morales, Trumbo?
Hmmmm
As for the starters thing, I'd like Greinke, & McCarthy at this point. Weaver, Greinke, Wilson, McCarthy, Richards sounds good to me.
