Location: Here | According to the article: "After working for the organization since 2001 as an East Coast crosschecker and then a major league scout, Russo took over international scouting responsibilities in November 2010. The Angels had fired their previous international director, Clay Daniel, shortly before July 2 in 2009, cleaned house of their international scouting department and essentially went dormant overseas for a year until Russo took over." |

I couldn't disagree more. How quickly you forget Jean Segura (key player in Greinke trade), Alexi Amarista (with Donn Roach, got Ernesto Frieri), Luis Jimenez, Ariel Pena, Fabio Martinez Mesa (ok, that one didn't work out), and others.
What the Angels haven't done is spend a lot of money signing "name" international players. |

Amarista may be decent.
Lucho has one last shot at being a big leaguer next year

| I'm sick and tired of not making the post-season in the 2010s, and this has been one area that has been lacking since the mid 2000s.

| Lucho had a good year in AAA and he'd be the regular third baseman if Callaspo was injured.
He'll likely repeat the level in 2013, but he'd be 25 when he did so, which is a bit old for the minors, but not 28 or 29 in AAA. |

Gomez had been the international scouting director for the Diamondbacks the last two years after joining the organization as a pro scout following the 2007 season. Gomez had worked with Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto with the Diamondbacks when Dipoto was Arizona's vice president of scouting and player development. Gomez is Dipoto's first major hire on the international side since he took over as the Angels' general manager after the 2011 season. |
