Random quote: Baseball is the greatest sport because it perfectly combines 3 major elements- athletic skill, strategy, and dumb stupid luck.

and taking less money for a hometown discount. The Marlins offered more money and C.J. proved that his family and friends and him wanting to be an Angel was more important than getting the most cash he could. Not quite the douche he is made out to be.

I honestly don't think most of these guys are all about the money. Sure, if the difference is overwhelming money will win out, but I think the opportunity to play close to home (see Weaver, Wilson), or play for a winner is often the most important factor.

I am pumped CJ is joining the team. I think he is a better signing than Pujols.

His second interview was interesting. He said he was in talks with the Angels and they told him they couldn't go to a 5th year, knowing the Marlins had 6 with a option 7th, then called him back and said, "Ok, we can now do a 5th" and left him with the impression something big was happening behind the scenes to where he thought we were going to get Pujols. Seemed to be a small portion of the decisions as well with him wanting to play here.

He mentioned it the same way Weaver did, even what he got was a lot of money so it's equally importnt to be happy where you are at.

Not sure what the douche stuff was really about other than his "Im not impressed" comment. I mean, he's cocky but, he wasn't an overt prick ala John Lackey.

Whatever people thought, he came across as a pretty cool dude in his two interviews on MLB Network, funny even. Anyway, they asked him who he was a fan of growing up, the Dodgers or Angels and he talked up Chuck Finley and Mark Langston, talked up wanting to have played in the Big A for the CIF Championships... Dude seems to have grown up an Angels fan and say what you will. He did take less money to play for us.

Anyway -- I thought his "Nah man, those are spirit fingers" comment was pretty funny...

He is also a generous person and a good community man. He won't show up in police lineups or tabloid pages.

you're delusional if you think money isn't the deciding factor for most athletes. cj wilson resented the rangers' front office for not making a serious offer (like 13 million dollars a year is a paltry sum) and then had to decide between anaheim and miami which is a terrible sports town in a terrible state.

77 million is too much for him, but considering the Marlins apparently were willing to go 100+ and 6-7 years, I guess we got this D-bag at a steal. He'd better pitch well.

Miami offered 85-90 and a 6th year with a 7th option.

Miami offered a better deal and CJ took less.

Pujols signed for (reportedly) 10/254, when Miami had offered him 10/275

Weaver signed for 5/85, when he could have easily gotten 120+ if he explored FA

Seems to me like the Angels are saving a lot of money by not getting into bidding wars with other teams.

Which is funny because so many knocked Arte and the FO for not doing so with FA's over the past 3 years.
