Location: Garden Grove | What is so great about the guy? His numbers aren't impressive at all. The guy is a career .235 hitter and only throws out 25% of runners. Conger can do better than that all while switch hitting. |

The only thing that impresses me about him is his career .357 OBP. I guess Dipoto wasn't lying about valuing that stat.
That being said, Iannetta has been Mathis away from Coors. Literally. I hope the time he splits with Conger is pretty even. |

| beatlesrule -- exactly right. Career .235 hitter; not that great defensively; in 2010 he had a Mathis like year at the plate hitting .197 in some 250 AB's (and playing home games at Coors Field).
his 'power' numbers show 22 HR average over 162 game season but he's never been a regular and his high water mark for HRs is 19 and those numbers were at COORS FIELD.
I'm just not sold on this guy and if we're giving up Chatwood, who did start a few games for us last year, we're giving up a potential 5th MLB starter and pen depth for a catcher who's sort of the other half of a Mathis bookend. |

| serious question...are we overvaluing chatwood? would he have been in the rotation if injuries and ineffectiveness didn't call for it? Was he a huge minor prospect? Not trying to undersell him, I just got the feeling Richards was the bigger prospect. Also Iannetta, despite a .235 career average, does have a career .357 OBP and .788 OPS, and the walks are not all from IBBs, about a 1.5:1 K to Walk ratio. He hits home runs and will produce some RBIs. |

I did notice though that in 2010 it was just .316, although next to Math-isn't that is stardom.
His road slugging % in 2011 was just .266 though. That is Math-isn't like. |

| I also noticed Iannetta has a career .995 Fielding %...so even though he throws out a career 25% of base runners, he most likely won't air mail it or throw to the wrong base. |

About a nickel, since it's a small sample size (117 PA). The year before, he hit .191/.409/.404 with RISP. Though for his career, he's at .268//.415/.499.
I notice that his OBP with RISP is very high. I wonder if that's a function of him frequently hitting 8th, meaning opposing teams are pitching around him to get to the pitcher?
(Side note: he's a UNC grad, which makes him a huge liability, obviously.) |

It's hard to know what to make of this trade. I was never sold on Chatwood, but I'm not convinced Iannetta is going to be the answer. He definitely isn't a guy who will fix this team's hitting woes by himself. |
