Hall of Fame Posts: 6573 | Not necessarily. Scouts have been gushing over Locker for over a year now and barring injury he could easily be the #1 pick in 2011. Matthew Stafford got a 72M contract in 2009 of which 41.7M is guaranteed. What do top baseball picks get guaranteed? As a QB Locker could make a killing in the NFL.

If you're a first-round pick you'll do pretty well. My theory is based upon a baseball player making it to the bigs and having a 10-year or so career. Plus, with baseball your body will be in much better shape when you retire.

Hall of Fame Posts: 6573 | The QB position in the NFL is one of the few where players can play 10+ years but of course there's always the risk of injury. As far as being a MLB prospect goes it could take years before a player makes it to the bigs at which point they're under club control. Big difference here is we're talking about a guy who could go right to the NFL and make millions guaranteed out the gate while he was drafted in the 10th round by the Angels.

Yes, it is. Locker is the real deal Sounds like he could also be a multiple times GG winning OFer with that arm, as well as stealing 30 bases/season with his speed. I hate to wish ill will on anyone, and I won't here of course. I just hope that somehow one day (in the next couple of years) he sees baseball as his real calling. Just have him converse with Bo Jackson, who would have been one of the all time greats in MLB if he stayed with it alone instead of also playing in the NFL. All-Star Posts: 3435 | why would anyone give up 40 mil+ gauranteed for 15K per year playing baseball? Best case scenario if he plays baseball, he become a star player and eventually gets a 40 mil+ contract. Of course, the odds of that are slim, so why would he walk away from gauranteed money in the NFL?

That is tempting, but is he willing to handle the potential life long injuries that football deals to some players. It all depends on what he wants out of life.

![]() Hall of Fame Posts: 32057 | Angel Oracle - 2010-04-25 11:38 AM Jackson had a pre existing condition called avascular necrosis which was cutting off blood supply to the femur which led to both the on field injury and subsequent hip replacement. You could also point to a bunch of guys that snapped their ankles sliding into 2nd base. It's a crap shoot avoind injury in sport so the kids best chance is to go with the sport he is most adept at.Angels Never Die - 2010-04-25 11:00 AM If he's so highly touted as a football player, why would he go into the unknown world of baseball? As a Raiders fan, I was hoping they would draft Locker but then I remembered this deal. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4450767
