Big League Angels Posts: 1383 | I like what I see out of Wood at the plate, then I don't like what I see. He looked completely over matched the opening week but showed he might be coming around in NY and Tor. by staying back better in a "driving position." This week he's looking awful again. Is it the Angel Stadium hitter's backdrop, that he's thinking too much up there at the plate again, does he need his eyes checked...because he's showing quite the weakness right now without handling the breaking pitch. He may never handle it, lay off it, and guess the fastball to hit his way through, I don't know, but we're looking at a Gary Gaetti if that's the case. The former Halos prospect traded for Jason Bulger in 2006 is proving (according to Scioscia's initial view before traded that year) quite a bat. The glove's another issue, but serviceable for most of the game. With Alex Gordon due to come back for the Royals at 3B, should or might he be one the Halos (re)turn too as the fallback option to Wood? Consider, they could use Wood for the late innings defensive replacement held to the bench if they keep him without dealing him or bring in Macier or a reliable call up if they do. Would you consider it? I would. Edited by HaloThunder 2010-04-27 3:42 PM

Big League Angels Posts: 1383 | PercySquint - 2010-04-22 7:52 PM And the Angels don't want wife beaters on the team. Last I checked he played 155 games for KC last year and will probably play a full season again this year with KC or another team if traded for. Would you not take the chance that he's corrected himself? One thing we can say is that it would hint for a Halos Venezuelan offensive slant with Abreu, Rivera, Callaspo, Izturis and Maggs if they get him next year. Aside from the wife beater thing, the Angels never part ways with a player, and bring them back later as a player. Not since 1996, I think. So why speculate on something that won't ever happen?

Tony Phillips, 1997. That backfired with his getting caught with the pipe at the motel, though, after they brought him back for his leadoff quality from 1995. Regardless, I don't believe it's a real issue that you're arguing. Good Wood the last couple of games, maybe he's turning the corner, still has to show he can handle the breaking stuff and cut down on the K's, though, before we get too excited.

Surely he couldn't have been worse than he was for the Rams in the last few years. Yep, Mark was not good at the end, granted he didn't have much OL protection or wide receiver talent around him. That is a messed up franchise. I hope Bradford isn't slammed into oblivion by the lack of OL protection. The one OL taken at the beginning of the 2nd round has promise, but how long will it take? Big League Angels Posts: 1383 | Callaspo's proving one of the better hitters in MLB, not just the AL. KC could either continue to build around their present best hitter or cash in on getting more prospects out a trade for him at this time. While 27 y/o and KC looking at the Halos for a possible trade, for example, there wasn't a point they could get the high level quality with the quantity. Now there is while he's that good of a hitter. Sciosh knew it from the beginning, somewhat the inside track edge there. Whether the Halos might attempt to pry a bullpen arm along with it, that's hard for any team to give up. Inquire about him, for the least, and show something for the desire to correct what's evident with present situation: 3B the weak link with the lineup and Callaspo an aspiring difference with the bat production and post-season power rankings.

They're having Alex Gordon learn a new position in the minors so Callaspo can have an everyday job, that sure sounds like the Royals want to keep Callaspo.

It would be nice if Reagins could somehow land Meeks. The Bucs bullpen is kind of stacked with Hanrahan doing well, the Donkey coming off the DL and Dotel sewing things up 7 out of 7 times in the month of May. The Pirates could be a good match because as usual they aren't even going to sniff the playoffs with St. Louis and Cinci in the same division.

Big League Angels Posts: 1383 | Re-opening the thread (without wasting a new one to open). Callaspo cooled down in June. The sore wrist might've been the cause and he might be heating up again. Assuming the Royals may be looking to bolster their future, chipping any of Callaspo, De Jesus, or Guillen, Callaspo might float out there as one of the Angels options to consider nearing the trade deadline. He's interesting of a damn good sleeper, IMO. Edited by HaloThunder 2010-07-06 1:44 AM
