Posts: 27 | Kinda strange(but cool I think) for me. When I was about 6 we were in a store and there were 3 hats. A's, Red Sox and Angels. I was the youngest and my brother wanted the A's hat and my sister took the Red Sox. I "ended" up with the Angels and have been a fan ever since. I live in MT so there is no natural teams(M's being the closest). I wondered for alot of years what I had got myself into, but man this is a great team with a great owner and I am proud to be an Angel. Edited by LuvDaHalos 2008-07-30 1:15 PM

AZL Angels Posts: 93 | I have been an Angel fan since I can remember. I was born and raised just a few blocks from the stadium. Those from the area might be familiar, I lived by "the airplane park." In fact, the Angels used to hold some practices at Boysen Field a few days before Opening Day and when I was attending the elementary school next to the park we were allowed to take our chairs out to the field and watch practice. My dad was an Anaheim cop and worked a lot of games in the early 70's. He would take me along as a 5, 6, 7 year old and have me sit in the players wives section. They were my babysitters of sorts. I fell alsleep every night listening to Dick Enberg and would turn down the volume every time there was a home run to listen to the crowd through my window. I have been addicted ever since. I have been fortunate enough to get to know several players through the 90's and up to 2006 and oddly enough 30 plus years later found myself sitting regularly in the players family section again as an adult. I even have a collection of bats for several years of birthday presents from many of them. Those friendships also allowed my to get some great tix for the '02 run and I went to all but one home game - the one where Bengie and the boys went off on the Twins (Bengie got a triple?) That's the nutshell version, but I do have a ton of memories and stories... David Edited by Low5Point 2008-07-31 10:11 AM

| My parents had season tickets for years before I was born and they had them until I was about 10, our seats used to be in the old middle deck section right by the old press boxes. When I was about 12 we moved out of state and I kept up with the Angels even though it was pretty difficult to do and very depressing. First chance I had (when I turned 18) I moved back to Southern California and I've been here ever since! I was lucky enough to be there for Game 7 when we won it all back in 2002 and I'll never forget that memory as long as I live! Now I have a family of my own and both my wife and my little girl are diehard Angel fans and I've carried on my family's great tradition and it makes me really proud. (sorry, getting kinda emotional) I'm sure all of you know how hard it was to grow up in Southern California as an Angel fan, it wasn't trendy or cool to be an Angel fan when everyone else was a Dodger fan. I took a bunch of sh-t growing up and from 2002 on I've felt really proud and validated for sticking with the Angels for my entire life! | |||

Posts: 13 | 1985, I was 3 and my dad began working with Gene and Jackie Autry to build the Gene Autry Museum. Ever since then, my life has revolved around the Halos. My dad and I shared a love for the Halos. Cancer took my dad's life in '06, but every time I watch an Angels game, I am reminded of why I love them so much and I know my dad is loungin' watchin the game as well. Love ya pops!

AZL Angels Posts: 50 Location: Delaware, Ohio | Boy, I wish I had a great connection to the Angels, either geographically or family-wise, but I don't. When I was about 5 we lived near Philadelphia, and my first two favorite players were Mike Schmidt and Bob Boone. We moved away, but they remained my favorites, and I wanted to be a catcher like Boone. When he went to the Angels, I remember thinking that seemed so far away, but what a cool name. Through the years I always had a soft spot for the team, but I'll be the first to admit that I started following more closely in the 2000s, when it was easier to do (internet, more TV coverage, etc). There's still something about SoCal being so far from where I am, yet feeling somehow connected. In 2005 I met my wife, and in 2006 we were married. She was born in Long Beach, and still has some family there. We visited last August and I got my first taste of the Halos live and in person. Awesome. It was against the Twins, and we got the win. Now I'm hoping to get to Cleveland in a week or so to catch them in person again, though in the road unis. Anyhow - that's my story. A bit bandwagon-ish I suppose, but it is what it is.

All-Star Posts: 1941 Location: prescott az | like i mentioned in an earlier thread(the "new to the board" thread). Ihave been followig the Angels since 2000. i was born and raised and still am a Mets fan . I grew up in Queens N.Y. and moved to AZ with my family when i was in high school. I got married in 1999 and started going to Anaheim a bunch with my wife .Anyway i started to check out the local team and really enjoyed the way they played , the stadium itself etc, etc. but what got me hooked was i started to go to a bunch of Angels ST games close to home in Tempe. since moving from N.Y. i hadn't had a 'home team" to root for in long time. I am not a Dbacks fan at all . So basically as the years went on i followed the team more and more went to more ST games - went to the Big A when i was in town etc, etc. i basically have two favorite teams one in the NL and one in the AL- makes the occasional meeting of the two odd for me . As a Mets fan too the Angels dominance of the Yankees is icing on the cake.Every year that goes by i find myself watching ore Angels games and buying more Angels merch though. So i figured i'd join an Angels board and this one looked good

I spent every summer from age 5 to 15 going to Angel's games. (This was the 90's, to date me). I can't imagine loving anyone else! And even when I eventually move out of SoCal I will wear my Halos with pride.

I live in MT so there is no natural teams(M's being the closest). I wondered for alot of years what I had got myself into, but man this is a great team with a great owner and I am proud to be an Angel. My favorite story of those I have read so far. That store was probably thrilled to sell the Angel hat back then. ("Thought we'd NEVER sell that thing!") It's crazy funny to hear so many different stories on the genesis of people's fandom. My story: Born in '67 and my parents used to to take us to baseball games in the mid 70's using 2-for-1 coupons from the "Let's Dine Out" coupon books. In those books there would be Dodgers and Angels coupons but there were more Angels coupons so we went to more Angels games. (That and the fact that the Angels were closer and you could get better seats there...) Then in '77 my dad bought season tickets, a splurge he allowed himself because as a child he always wanted to have season tickets to the Phillies or the A's, but that was something only 'rich' people could do. So as his career turned upward, he took the plunge. Of course, that sealed it for me. When Disney took over and remodeled, they moved us back a row (we had been in front row Terrace for 20 years) my dad got so mad at them, he wasn't going to renew his tickets. My response to that was "like heck, I'll take them over" and so I did. Still live 90 miles away from the ballpark, but now I just go to the weekend games and share the rest with a couple in the OC. My kid, he's 3 years old. I am just glad that turning a kid into an Angel fan is no longer tantamount to child abuse. Edited by Rochambeau 2008-08-28 11:49 AM

Posts: 3 | I've been an Angel fan since 1969, they will always be the California Angels to me. As with all of my favorite teams it was love at first site..It was a combination of a lot of things: The way the players looked in their uniforms on the baseball cards, Fregosi's number 11 and his cool sideburns on tv, the drawings in the Herald Examiner sport pages..Their underdog status in Los Angeles ( I grew up in Compton, where most folks liked the Dodgers), Dick Enberg, the Theme music before the games, the little rabbit that would come out of the ground to hand the ump baseballs up in Oakland, you could only get that during Angel broadcasts..the older guys in the area where I lived would get over on me as I would give up a great playercards like Yaz or Hank Aaron for an Angel just because he was wearing a batting helmet on the card , those guys called the Angels "bums" or "sorry" and that cemented my love for them ..I would push them spiritually towards a World Series one day...to tell you the truth I would've been happy just to be in competition at the end of the year or just to make the playoffs with Curt Gowdy saying" and here's Johnson,he's the Angels leading hitter,he beat out Yaz by percentage points for the American League batting title in the 1970 season..He came over in a trade last spring with Cinncinatta..California recieved Johnson along with Maloney and Chico Ruiz for pitchers Pedro Borbon and Jim McGlothin, he can be a 'little moody' says Angel skipper Lefty Phillips, and time will tell if things will work out...heres the pitch from Cuellar...all this on a sunny saturday afternoon in Baltimore's Memorial stadium wit a nice veiw of the houses over the center field fence...Ahhh what coulda been.....I've been with them ever since watching most of the televised games with fingers crossed, listening to some the radio broadcast, and reading about them in my dad's newspapers.....my first live Angel game was in 1977 in Seattle during a family vacation, I remember vividly Don Baylor hitting a home run that would've gone out of the park as it cleared the left field bleachers..it hit the wall of the Kingdome behind the bleachers..I finally got a chance to see the Angels in person at the Big A in 1986 vs the Yankees..I was on vacation from the military and I had my own car then and steady money..Halos lost 14-8 or something like that the Yanks had a big lead and the more the Angels scored the more NY would widen the lead..I was just happy to be there near the left field foul pole...Actually my fist trip to the Big A was in Sept. 1969 for an NFL exhibition game Between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers..that was the start of another trend in my life but that's for another fourm.

Posts: 5 | I grew up playing softball in Orange County and the California Angels were naturally the team to route for. I remember my parents taking my brother and I to our first game circa 1979. Bobby Grich was my idol since we played the same position. No, I don't remember who they played or if they won, but I remember being so excited about going, about wearing my CA Angels hat and determined to catch a foul ball. My parents bought me one of those mini wooden bats and a CA Angels felt pennant. I had that up in my room until I moved out to attend college. I bet my parents stll have that pennant somewhere. I should find it so I can put it up in my sons' room!

Posts: 22 | I became an Angel fan because of my Grandfather, most of the family were Dodger fans because we went to so many games, what with growing up 10 minutes from there and all, but Grandpa was a die hard Angels fan and he used to watch them when they were the ONLY team in L.A. waaaay before the Dodgers even came to L.A. So when they moved to the Big A he took me to the very first game and I've been hooked ever since. We went over the years, saw the Ryan Express, Mickey Rivers, Rod Carew, Gary Discarcina, Doug Dicences, ALL the great, and now we have a whole NEW team of Greats!!! Grandpa died a few years ago and I went to Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, back in 2002 and placed a cap on his grave along with the headlines reading, ANGELS!!! 2002 WORLD CHAMPIONS! He was even buried in an Angel Jacket with an Angel cap in his hands!!! THAT'S why I'm an Angel Fan, as are my daughters and and as of 4 this morning, my new grandson who has an Angel uniform waiting for him when he gets home!!! IT'S ALL ABOUT THE HALOS!!!!

All-Star Posts: 2791 | I'm an Indians fan first and foremost, however I married a Villa Park girl. I moved here in the summer of '02, but didn't start pulling for the Angels until '05. We now have 2 girls, 3 yrs and 8 months, and I will raise them on the home team, just as my dad did with me. We're in our 2nd year with a 27-game pkg and will grab full season seats AS SOON as the kids can sit through 81+. As the saying goes 'Baseball is Life'. Oh, and my first memory of the Angels was in either '81 or '82. I was 7 or 8 and we had front row seats at the old Cleveland Stadium. The Halos thumped the Tribe 14-0! I should have switched allegiances that night.

Arkansas Travelers Posts: 694 Location: Anaheim | My dad was both an Angels and Dodger fan, but I always liked the Angels more. He used to take me to Angel games all the time. While I was in high school, the A's were the hot team, with Canseco, McGwire, and Rickey, all my friends started wearing A's hats, shirts, etc. But not me. It was hard going through the 90s, with the 1995 meltdown, to the periwinkle uniform, to the Mo Vaughn signing, but my loyalties have always been Angels.

Posts: 36 | Growing up, I lived in a neighborhood at the top of Nohl Ranch Road. In the summer, it became a tradition for all of the neighborhood kids to meet in the cul de sac a little before 9:00, sit on the wall along Nohl Ranch Road and watch the Disney Fireworks. We could see the Big A from where we sat and many nights we would wait to see if the Halo would light up. My first boyfriend was from the neighborhood and he was a huge Angel's fan. We would sit together and he would tell me stories and stats about the team and baseball in general. I stopped liking him, but kept liking the Angels. When I had children of my own, they were busy athletes and I was constantly running somewhere or another with little time to devote to being a baseball fan. I went to a few games a year with my husband/kids, but didn't follow the Angels like I had when I was younger. Now that both my kids are away at college, my husband and I are avid fans. We watch/listen to every game and go to several games a year.

Posts: 19 | I've attended quite a few games since I started truly following the team after their 2002 season. I love the excitement at the ball field. Every inning they have something exciting happening. Plus I was a huge Mike Soscia fan for the years he was on the Dodgers and he truly runs the team like an NL team with all the running and small ball. Plus I've been to Dodger stadium and they don't do any of the fun in between inning stuff like they do at Angel stadium. Ok, so I might be a little bit of a dirty old man, but they've always got hot young girls shooting souvenirs into the stands. They don't do that stuff at Dodger stadium. That's so good for the kids and even old guys like me LOL. I do bring my young children to the game, and they really love the rally monkey. Those videos are so hilarious. I love it, and so do my kids. They jump up and down and dance like a monkey when they see the videos. Sometimes they watch the game, but they really like to stick around and watch the monkey.
