![]() Hall of Famer Posts: 22727 Location: AngelsWin.com: Where Angels Fans Are @ | I mean, what made you an Angels fan? We had this thread I think 2 years or so ago, but I cannot merge data from the old board to this one, so let's have at it again. For me, I was 9 years old and it was 1979. My step dad who listened and watched most of all the games that year got me into the Angels. As they drew closer to the players my intensity as a fan of the Angels became huge. We lost to the O's that year in the playoffs (I can remember like it was yesterday) and I was devastated, but an Angels fan was born in me and I have never looked back. How about you?

| Dad raised me well. He grew up a Halos fan and thus, so did I. Also, playing for the Angels 5 of my 7 years in little league also was a huge factor in me being an Angels fan | |||

All-Star Posts: 4519 | Pretty easy - they're the local team when you live in Huntington Beach. To expand on that we were never dirt poor but I was raised by a single parent and we had roommates pretty much my entire life. The Angels weren't that far away, had cheap seats, fan day of which I have pictures of Lance Parish, Chili Davis, Wally Joyner, Brian Downing, etc and my mom's friend who used to work at a grocery store was able to get a Wally Joyner card autographed when he came in to shop. It was a lot easier to get into the team you could get tickets to as well as the fact that you didn't have to head to LA and brave getting stabbed to see a Dodger game. We went to the occasional dodger game but it was a completely different atmosphere whereas an Angel game always felt like home.

Location: Suburbs | Dennis "El Presidente" Martinez! Im Nicaraguan, he was on the O's and is friends with my middle brother. First game I saw was the Halos/O's (Ryan vs Martinez) Apr 79', was really there to follow Martinez, but fell in love with the big Texan and the Halos. And to add to it, I always liked being the only LA County Halo fan within my circle of friends/family.

My dad took me to my first game when I was 7. Back then it was Roger Repoz and "Dirty" Al Gallahger. I, too, was hooked instantly.

![]() Hall of Fame Posts: 5859 | This will probably get me banned, but in the late 70's, I was a 'fan' of the Dodgers....My little league coach was a fan, and would take us to several games a year. Than, I got smart. Starting in the early 80's, I found the light....Through the mid 80's and into the early 90's my dads company had season tickets, used to attend about 40 games a year, including the AS game, and never looked back. I havent made the mistake with my two boys though. They have been breed to be Angels fans and only Angels fans.
About little league, I still have a soft spot for the Braves.

| I'm sure most of us had to endure the ," why are you an Angels fan ?" questions from our friends. Funny thing is that i had messages at my mom's house after we won the WS from guys i hadn't seen in 10-15 years trying to get a hold of me cuz they knew i'd be on cloud 9. Big League Angels Posts: 1192 Location: Midvale, Utah | Chuck - 2008-03-13 2:14 PM So you were 30 when you became an Angels fan? If we are going to bring up age...I became an Angels fan in 2002 at age 45. That was the year Salt Lake became the AAA affiliate of the Angels. For most of my life the Angels were annoyance because they were in the same division as the Royals. I am sure it was a huge deal to Halos fans in 1979 when the Angels finally broke through and won the division. I remember rooting for them against the Orioles in the ACLS. I have always disliked the Red Sox and I was heartbroken in the way the 1982 ALCS turned out. I am an Angels fan now because Lackey, Weaver, K-Rod, Figgins, Kotchman, Kendrick, Napoli, Mathis, and Torii Hunter all came through Salt Lake on their way to the Major Leagues. | ||

Location: Earth | I didn't have any family that were really fans. But my uncle played baseball when I was a kid. We'd go to the park on weekends and play. I fell in love with the game and started watching on TV when I was 4. I'd watch the Angels and Dodgers. I credit Vin Scully and his AWFUL AWFUL style and mind numbing voice for making me choose the Angels over the Dodgers. when I was five I begged my parents to take me to a game. They did and we started going to one game a homestand. My parents liked beer a lot. Since then, I'd say other than little league games, family trips, high school and college football games, the occassional night shift at previous jobs, and now comedy shows I never miss a game.

![]() Hall of Fame Posts: 18029 | I went to my first game in 1966 at a brand new Anaheim Stadium. There was a guy in the outfield by the name of Rick Riechardt (old schoolers know the name) and my nickname was Rick. I remember the game was against the Orioles but unless I look it up i couldn't say who the ptiching matchup was. The most vivd memory was my brother going for a fould ball, from his front row seat in the second deck. My dad grabbed him by his belt just in time as he went over the rail. John was all excited "Dad, Dad i almost had it!" Yeah, you could say that. A couple years later I got a 9 volt transistor radio with an earplug. From then on I listened to the game each night with the earplug so my parent thought I was asleep. I never made it to the end of the games so far as I knew they never lost one of those games.

![]() Hall of Fame Posts: 13822 Location: Doin' the dew | we lived closer to dodger stadium so we always went there for games when we first moved back to l.a. from the cincinnati area. loved watching ball on the tube and one day in 1967 i found an angels game on the tube on a sunday morning. loved their theme song and the enthusiasm of dick enberg's voice. i also really dug the halo around the top of their hats and batting helmets (would LOVE to get me one of those). jim fregosi was my favorite player for whatever mysterious reason i chose him as a 7 year old. our first angels game wasn't until four years later when i was 11. it was a twi-night doublehader agaisnt the tigers. between games there was a softball game between the members of the media and some playboy bunnies.
