Orem Owlz Posts: 105 | Dad took me to a game in the early 80's, bought me a California Angels jacket, and that was that. I go to probably 5 or ten games a year, and watch most of the rest on TV.

Posts: 2 | I came to SoCal in 1999 for love. I came from Kansas so I was a fan of the Royals for many years. Previous to that I lived in Michigan so I was a fan of the Tigers. In each case when I was there they won world championships and was very excited. It got me again in 2002 when the Angels won the WS. I started to follow them that year for real and decided that I really liked them and the manager. They have been a big part of my life every summer since and I miss them when they aren't playing. Go Halos!!!

Posts: 20 | I was a HUGE dodger fan in the late 70's-80's when Cey, Lopes, Russell, Yeager, etal were on the team. For some reason, I moved to the OC in 1988 and caught an Angel game on TV, have been a HUGE Angel fan ever since, and let the dodgers go by the wayside...

Orem Owlz Posts: 232 | I'm an Angels fan for a couple of reasons. I live about 15 minutes away from the stadium so my family got tickets for about 5-10 games a year starting at the beginning of the decade. My passion fired up these past years because I pretty much went to all of the games without having to go with the whole family and have gone a lot with my friends. I went to about 35 games last year and I have just fell in love so much with the team. I have no real roots of Angels history in my family except in '02 when my family and friends watched all the playoff games. I don't have season tickets and the rest of my family watches them but aren't close to the level of my admiration for them. Over the last few years I've really tried to learn more about Angels history, such as players, stats, etc. My mom grew up a Dodgers fan, had season tickets behind home plate and my dad was a giants fan and still watches them today. So I've pretty much grown on my own into an Angels fan and I hope I get to stay in OC for a long long time.

Posts: 1 | Well, I've been a fan of Hideki Matsui for years, since he used be a member of Yomiuri Giants in Tokyo. 7years ago, He anxious to play in the MLB then he became a Yankee. He had so much in trouble to make a lots of things to adjust in MLB style. His career in MLB was not stable. He's got troubles in his knees or wrist. Finally, he became the MVP player in the last world series. After that, the Brian Cashman didn't express the necessity of him in the new season, I guess he had disappointed so bad because he could not accept any earlier offer to make new contract as a Yankee member just like as Johnny Damon. Now he's got new team with such a wonderful playing manager, team mates, fans, climate. So, new circumstances may good stimulus for him and that may turn him real 'Godzilla'. I don't know if my English is good enough to you, but still I wish I could communicate with a lots of things from you, Halo fans.

Spread the word in Japan to all Matsui and Baseball fans alike. This is the one stop shop for all Angels & Hideki Matsui fans. We were contacted by the Manichi Newspaper and the Japan Times for interviews on Matsui, what we think of him and the signing. Cedar Rapids (Low-A) Posts: 315 | I was a fan of the Angels from watching them on TV growing up but wasn't a FAN until my dad took me and some of my friends to an Angels game in 1989. My first pro game - 11 years old. They were playing the Royals and Danny Tartabull was in right field - right where we were sitting. We were mercilous and incredibly witty. Danny "Tarter Sauce" struck out at least 3 times, most likely because he was very sad from our heckling. The Angels won the game and I've been a rabid fan ever since.

Posts: 6 | I grew up and have lived 3 miles from the stadium for almost 44 years, been to at least one game every season, sat everywhere in the stadium, have thrown out the first ball once and was the catcher another time, have had friends in the organization, met many of the players over the years, was there in '86 for "the pitch", talked baseball with Gene Autry once in the old days of the Stadium Club, and sat there in person for game 7 of the World Series and cried over seeing my childhood and favorite team win it all. Couldn't ask for a better franchise to feel a part of all these years. Many teams have a longer and more storied history but this is my team and always will be.

Cedar Rapids (Low-A) Posts: 315 | All I will say is that someone in my family works for them... but I have always been proud to be an Angels fan even in the 90's. I love how they are always a team that can counter the Yankees and the traditional superpowers and also just their general presence in baseball.

Posts: 40 Location: San Tan Valley, Arizona | WOW! Can't believe all the stories on this thread! Here's mine: Although born in Chandler, AZ we moved to SoCal when I was 2 months old so basically I grew up watching the Angels, Lakers, Rams, Trojans and am such a sports fanatic and loyalist that I have NEVER even thought of even coming close to thinking about following or rooting for another team. Can't stand any other team in any sport and just don't understand otherwise! I won't even allow any other team items in my home! I'm dead serious about that! When my sis passed away we adopted her daughters and one of them is a Raiders fan, well she wanted to bring all of her stuff of course but I would not allow the Raiders (or as I like to call them the traitors) stuff in my home at all. Needless to say she was not too pleased with me. Anyway ALWAYS BEEN AN ANGELS FAN AND ALWAYS WILL BE, EVEN AFTER I DIE!!!

Posts: 3 | I was born in the Philipppines but me and my family migrated to Orange County when i was an 8 year old boy back in 1984 . First thing i did with my new neighbors in Fountain Valley was play baseball in the park across the street. Of course everyone was an Angels fan, so i automatically became one too. My favorite players then were Reggie Jackson and Wally Joyner. While I'm a sports fan regardless (lakers, chargers, etc..) the Angels were the first team I ever cheered for and baseball was my first sport.

AZL Angels Posts: 51 Location: Ventura, California | I had the great fortune of a mother who really enjoyed taking my twin brother and I to at least 15 times Angel games a year from a very young age! Being a single parent, she got home from work, packed up the car, and would drive 2 hours to the Stadium and we would get our souvenirs, seat cushions, and i remember sandwiches Mom made and just enjoying the game so much, it didnt matter at that age in winning or losing. Seat cushion nights were awesome.... that was the original "Thundersticks", just grab 2 and slap em together, i still think they were louder than the sticks today ! LOL Driving to games now is like therapy, relaxing with anticipation for a great game ! I Love it !! We always went when Nolan Ryan was starting the game, and usually finishing it LOL. Now that im older, i love taking my Mom to the games and always get nostalgic about everyting i have seen and enjoyed about the Angels. I didnt like it when they closed the stadium up for football, but was ecstatic when they opened it back up! I can still remember seeing Nolan's truck parked under the BIG A behind the center field fence, and watching him walk to the players entrance! And watching the freeway move in the background, its funny, didnt miss it much before, but appreciated it after the stadium was opened up again. I would like to know players like Cal Ripken's opinion on this who have seen it change like that over the years. 2002 World Series title,... I have no words for, it was over the top incredible and words cant describe they happiness and fullfillment from it. Lets do it again !!!!

Posts: 8 | I supported both teams when I started with baseball. When the Dodgers traded Mike Piazza, my favorite player then and still, I swore I would never root for them again. Been Halos all the way since. I live real close to Dodger Stadium but I only set foot in that place during the Freeway Series.

Posts: 1 | Both my parents are originally from Tioga, Texas, which is Gene Autry's hometown. Grew up in TX rooting for the Rangers but always had that soft spot for the Angels. Also helped that Nolan and Don Baylor were both Halos. Been to 3 games in Anaheim, all against the Rangers, and have always had a good experience. Cordial fans, and despite its age, what I still consider one of the more comfortable stadiums to watch a game (and I've been to nearly all of them).

Arkansas Travelers Posts: 664 | It started when I moved west in 1998. My wife is a Yankees fan, so naturally we traveled to Anaheim when the Yanks were in town. I have hated the Yankees virtually since birth, and the combination of a team relatively close to where I live (four hours or so) who beat the Yankees more often than any other, and the match was a natural.

Posts: 38 | I'm originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. I came to So. Calif. in 1957 to go to college (yes I am 71 years old). When the Dodgers moved here and the Giants went to San Francisco, I was naturally a Giants fan. Then I got married and had children. I didn't want them to root for a team they could only watch a couple times a year and then my dilemma was solved! The Angels were born. I survived Wrigley Field and Chavez Ravine, I survived some incredibly horrible seasons. I was the butt of a lot of jokes by Dodger fans (and my Giant roots really made me hate the Blue Crew. If they never play .500 ball again will be the greatest day I can think of). My wife and I bought four season seats in 1980 (behind home plate in the terrace level) and had them until the remolding when Disney wanted to move us out past the third baseman, so we never renewed them. I spent a lot of money on tickets and ended up eating most of them because the Angels were so bad no one wanted them. I am and always will be an Angel fan. I am very critical of them when they don't play to their potential. I hate all these sports talk idiots who brag about Yankee, Red Sox and other eastern fans are so knowledgeable. Be honest no where in this country is more baseball played, at more levels, all year around by more people than here in Southern California. Angel fans are knowledgeable because most of them have played the game, not because their grandparents owned box seats at a stadium.

AZL Angels Posts: 70 | When I was growning up as a young kid, I used to watch my father watch Dodgers games. I used to like the A's uniform at the time (seeing them against the Dodgers in the 88 World Series games), and wanted to be an Oakland fan. Yeah young kids do choose their teams for odd reasons, no? Anyway, that did not last long as I got a little older I wanted to follow a local SoCal team. I ALWAYS root for the underdogs and the Angels fit the bill at the time. Since then, I have been following the Halos and very happy I did. I go to about 12+ games a year. More if I lived closer to Anaheim. I still love the old California Angels name because that was one of the main reasons I choose the Angels instead of the Dodgers. "What better team name than one named after your state!" That's what I thought at the time at least Oh, and I did like the Angels in the Outfield movie too. That sealed the deal I think

Posts: 35 Location: Cedar Rapids, IA | Moved to SoCal as a Cards fan from STL in '97. We were about 20 minutes from Anaheim so it made sense. I'm also a huge Nebraska football fan so when Darin Erstad was with the Halos it was even more reason to hop on board. Moved to Iowa in 2001 and worked for the Kernels while in high school - still make it to a dozen or so games a season to watch some future Angels stars. Got to see Mike Trout several times this season and also got to see the Halos twice in Busch Stadium in May. Took in my first Spring Training game in March as well.
